Who is Harry Potter?

Jul 24, 2007

That's the questions I so want to ask someone I can confide in. It just amazes me the way I was able to steer past this revolution for 10 years and 28 days! Never in my life have I touched a Harry Potter book (even though I would have read an average of 25-30 books per year all these years).

I owe this so called achievement to several reasons: First, I was not aware back in 1997 that there is something like Harry Potter. Next, I have this seemingly fierce hatred for magical stuffs. Next, I don't like movies which has children as lead artist. I just don't feel comfortable surrendering my 2-3 hours in the hands of children. Next, when I first heard about it, I heard it from so many sources at the same time that I developed a hatred towards it.

And today, when I was browsing through newspaper online, something caught my eyes: 11 million copies sold in three markets within 24 hours. Isn't that just crazy? and I have also heard that they have launched it in 88 countries! Some news reported that J K Rowling is apparently making 94 sterling pound for every word in the book. By some estimates, The "Harry Potter" magic has put her net worth above Queen Victoria! All these statistics will make you crazy. (Too many sources to quote...besides I don't even remember where did I see what?)

Well, all said and done, I have yet not changed my resolution to lay my hands on the potter books. In fact, only 2 weeks back, I have bought my shield for this Potter ammunition. I went to Borders and bought all the three copies of "The Lord of the Rings".

I got a hint from Mankiw's blog as to when would be the ideal time to break the Potter Resolution. I plan to recite all the 7 parts to my child! That's the master plan! Until then, you guys enjoy it. I will watch from the shore!
